What is Telogen effluvium?

Telogen effluvium (hair loss); is a non-cicatricial type of hair loss due to abnormal hair cycle during telogen phase which disappears with the increase of hairs during catagen phase. It is typically characterized by 100-telogen hair loss in a day. If the period is shorter than 6 months, it is called acute telogen effluvium; but if the period is longer than 6 months, then it is called chronical telogen effluvium.

Healthy, vital and luminous hairs are mirror of our bodies. Hair loss, which is common problem for both men and women, may be annoying in high hair loss periods.

Telogen effluvium has a large variety of reasons:

1) It can be seasonal. Especially in spring months, hair fall may be much more than normal.

2) Medications, antidepressant and hormonal pills that we use may cause hair loss.

3) Some chronic diseases, thyroid disorders and anemia may trigger the hair loss.

4) Stress is one of the most significant factors causing hair loss. Generally, intense hair loss may be observed three or four months after stressful circumstances.

5) Hair loss observed three or four months after pregnancy is physiological. This time course may continue for more periods of time. It will be appropriate to treat before it becomes chronic.

6) Genetic factors play important role in hair loss. Family history is very significant in this respect.

How is the treatment determined in telogen effluvium?

Those who suffer from hair loss should have a blood analysis to determine whether any disease cause or trigger such hair loss. Iron, Biotin, Vitamin B12, folic acid, Vitamin D, zinc and thyroid hormones are important for the hairs.

Treatment in hair fall should definitely be personal.

Firstly, substances deficient in our bodies should be replaced. The underlying disease, if any, should be treated and cured. Vitamin treatment, hormonal medicines or hair lotions are major treatment alternatives that we use.

In addition to this, the application of various vitamins which is called as Mesotherapy gives favorable results. Plasma application rich in thrombocyte is another treatment method which gives favorable results in hair loss. Treatment may be repeated at 2-4 week intervals. The number of sessions vary from 3 to 6 sessions according to the type of hair. Maintenance treatment applied once every 6 months ensures efficiency.

Hair loss, which makes us frightened to comb our hairs or look at coms, is not an unsolvable problem. For that reason, there is no need to be afraid. With the help of above mentioned treatments such as mesotherapy, you can prevent hair loss and vitalize your hairs.
