Let’s take a closer look at the solution for excessive sweating treatment. The problem of excessive sweating, which we call ‘hyperhidrosis’ in dermatology, is a discomfort that can disturb us both individually and in our bilateral relationships in our daily life, as well as often embarrassing us when living in the community. When it happens, it creates problems when shaking hands, writing, holding the pen in the exam or driving a car because of the wetness it creates.

While sweat stains on clothes, underarms, constantly damp palms and wet feet are the main complaints, avoidance of social and sports activities begins, and all these adversely affect the quality of life of patients. Especially in recent years, ‘sweating botox’ has come to the rescue of people who try powder, cream, roll-on or sprays for a solution, but only get results for a short time.

Before we move on to how sweat botox creates a quick and permanent solution at this point, let’s take a closer look at why we sweat excessively…

It’s not just a summer problem.

People with regional excessive sweating, ie hyperhidrosis, produce 4-5 times more sweat than normal in the armpits, hands and feet. In these people, there is hypersensitivity, that is, overwork, in the stimuli that go from the brain to the nerve endings and govern sweating. While the structure and number of sweat glands are normal, the work of the glands is excessive. In this respect, although excessive sweating is seen as a summer problem, dressing in layers and being in closed areas in winter are among the factors that trigger the problem.

The reason why sweating is ‘excessive’, which is a physiological condition necessary to keep the body’s temperature in a certain balance, can sometimes be hereditary and sometimes due to illness, excitement, fear, embarrassment or extremely stressful situations. Excessive work of the thyroid glands, some diseases caused by the adrenal glands, obesity, menopause and drugs used in the treatment of some cancers can cause excessive sweating.

Apart from the smell, it also causes fungus and eczema.

While excessive sweating on the feet causes discomfort to the environment due to bad odor, it also paves the way for fungal growth on the feet and nails. Bacteria multiply and cause boils, and warts on the hands and feet are common. In addition, since sweat has an acid structure, prolonged contact with the skin causes irritation, the skin becomes more sensitive to allergens, eczema may occur.

With sweating treatment, 75% reduction in sweating is achieved after 4 weeks.

Botulinum toxin, or botox, comes first in the treatment of underarm and hand sweating. Since some nerves that cause sweat formation in the area related to botulinum toxin application will become ineffective, the production and excretion of sweat is prevented.

Before the procedure, anesthetic cream can be applied to the area to be treated. Then, the area to be injected is marked with 1.5-2 cm intervals and botulinum toxin is applied to each point by injection. The process takes an average of 30 minutes. Its effect begins to be felt in an average of 7-10 days. It was determined that there was a 75% decrease in sweating 4 weeks after the first botulinum toxin application.

We remove 98% of toxins from our body through the urine.

Although botulinum toxin does not have any significant side effects in the treatment of underarm sweating, the most frequently asked question is “Is it not harmful to prevent sweating?” The main reason this question is asked is because we think that we expel all toxins from our body by sweating. The reason why the application is not harmful is that we remove 98% of the toxins from our body through the urine. Underarm and whole body sweating accounts for only 2% of this.

Application once a year greatly relieves people

When our patients come for control, we can measure the areas of sweating and the severity of sweating by performing an iodine-starch test on the areas of excessive sweating. In this context, we apply iodine solution or castor oil to the sweating test area. Then we apply starch to the same area. After waiting for 10 minutes, we observe the areas of excessive sweating in blue-black color and apply additional applications to the necessary areas.

The effect of the treatment lasts as long as 6-9 months, so even if the treatment is applied once a year, the person will be greatly relieved. There are people who have difficulties in daily activities and social life due to sweating. I can clearly say that these patients are especially relieved psychologically due to the decrease in sweating after the treatment. However, we do not apply this treatment to pregnant and lactating women, those under the age of 17, those who are using certain antibiotics, and those who have muscle disease.
