What is Verruca Vulgaris?

Verruca/Wart is a contagious skin disease caused by human papilloma virus (HPV). Despite it mostly occurs in hands and in children, it may be seen in each age group and in every part of body. It is round, tumorous and sometimes has cauliflower-like appearance. It is straight in plantar area based on pressure and frequently confused with callus.

How does Verruca Vulgaris spread?

It spreads directly through contact. It is possible to state several reasons such as shaking hands with infected person, barefoot walking in pool side or using shared bathrooms etc. When we remove verruca on our body and touch another part of our body or when we remove the verruca around our fingernails, it can easily spread to other fingers.

Is there anything as male or female verruca?

We frequently hear such question from many patients. The answer is no, there is no such thing as male or female virus or illness. HPV has more than 100 types. Virulence, namely effect on our bodies, varies according the type of virus. In viral diseases, patients’ immune system is of vital importance. It may be significantly difficult to cope with verruca vulgaris during highly stressful periods, during diet periods or under the effect of insomnia, alcohol and cigarette.

Can verruca be treated with prayer?

Body immunity and resistance is very important in verruca treatment. If we believe that we can recover from this disease with prayer, yes it can work. If we have no such belief, I don’t think to have any effect when applied involuntarily by force.

What can be applied in verruca treatment?

Treatment to be applied should be personalized. The duration of disease, its location, number of verruca, previously applied treatments and age of the patient will affect the choice of the physician.

Generally, the first choice is medications applied externally and containing acids. Cryotherapy, electrocauterization and carbon dioxide laser are among the most frequently preferred treatments. Despite all these treatments, verruca treatment may sometimes be very difficult since it can recur and spread even after treatment.
